Europe Day 15: London - The End.

Friday, November 19th (walking 3.1km, 2x2 train rides = 7.20gpb)

09:30 - 09:45 - Check out. Leave luggage with concierge.


We walked to Portobello Road Market then made up time by not going to
Harrods below (which we previously visited).

09:45 - 10:00 - Walk (500m) to Bayswater Station.
10:00 - 10:30 - At Bayswater take the yellow Circle line (direction
Hammersmith (Met.)) and change at Gloucester Road to the blue/purple
Piccadilly line (direction Cockfosters) to Knightsbridge.
10:30 - 10:40 - Walk (300m) to Harrods (LP224).
10:40 - 13:30 - Shopping and brunch around Harrods (LP224).
13:30 - 14:00 - Walk (600m) to Victoria & Albert Museum (LP139)





14:00 - 17:00 - Victoria & Albert Museum (LP139) and Natural History Museum
17:00 - 17:45 - Walk (200m) to South Kensington Station. Take the
yellow Circle line (direction Edgware Road (Circle/District/H&C)) to
Bayswater. Walk (500m) to Umi Hotel.
17:45 - 18:00 - Wait for taxi.
18:00 - 19:00 - Go to Heathrow Airport. Option 1: Take taxi to
Paddington Station then take Heathrow Express (16.5gbp) or Heathrow
Connect (7.40gpb). Option 2: Take taxi (45-65gbp) to Airport.
19:00 - 20:30 - Dinner at airport.
20:50 - Flight to Hong Kong.

Europe Day 14: London

Thursday, November 18th (walking 4.6km, 2x3 train rides = 10.80gpb)
This day we reversed the schedule below and went to the Tate Modern
Gallery first, then went to Burrough Market and took the train to
Westminister. We saw the sights there and then walked across St.
James's Park to Buckingham Palace.

08:00 - 09:00 - Walk (500m) to Bayswater Station. Have breakfast.

09:00 - 09:20 - At Bayswater take the yellow Circle line (direction
Hammersmith (Met.)) to St. James’s Park.
09:20 - 09:35 - Walk (500m) to Buckingham Palace (LP86).

09:35 - 10:00 - Walk (800m) across St. James’s Park (LP87).

10:00 - 11:00 - Walk (200m) to go inside Westminster Abbey (LP89). Requires entrance fee.

11:00 - 11:30 - Walk (200m) around Big Ben (Houses of Parliament, LP92).
11:30 - 12:00 - Walk (200m) to 10 Downing Street (LP95).
12:00 - 12:30 - Walk (200m) to Westminster Station. Take the grey
Jubilee line (direction Stratford) to London Bridge Station. Walk
(200m) to Burrough Market (LP226).



12:30 - 14:00 - Walking lunch at Borrough Market (LP226).

14:00 - 14:30 - Walk (800m) passing the Golden Hinde (LP129) and Globe
Theatr
e (LP129) to the Tate Modern Gallery (LP128).


14:30 - 18:00 - Tate Modern Gallery (LP128).
18:00 - 18:30 - Walk SW (300m) and cross Southwark Street to the RV1
bus stop. Ride to Covent Garden (last stop).
18:30 - 20:30 - Dinner and walk.
20:30 - 21:00 - At Covent Garden take the blue/purple Piccadilly line
(direction Cockfosters) and change at Holborn to the red Central line
(direction Ealing Broadway) to Queensway.
21:00 - 21:20 - Walk (700m) to Umi Hotel.

Europe Day 13: London


Wednesday, November 17th (walking 3km, 2x4 train rides = 14.40gpb)
07:30 - 08:30 - Walk (500m) to Bayswater Station. Have breakfast.
08:30 - 09:00 - At Bayswater Station take the yellow Circle line
(direction Edgware Road (Circle/District/H&C)) to Tower Hill Station.
Walk (100m) to The Tower of London.



09:00 - 12:30 - The Tower of London (museum, LP117)
12:30 - 12:45 - Walk (200m) to the middle of Tower Bridge (LP121) and back.

12:45 - 13:15 - Walk (1km) past The Monument (LP107).
13:15 - 13:30 - Walk (500m) to Bank Station. Take the red Central line
(direction Ealing Broadway) one stop to St. Paul’s.


13:30 - 14:30 - St. Paul’s Cathederal (LP99).
14:30 - 16:00 - Late lunch. (St. Paul’s Cathederal Cafe or Wagamama on
Fleet Street. Also try Carter Lane or Foster Lane for restaurants).
London Stock Exchange is nearby.
16:00 - 16:30 - At St. Paul's take the red Central line (direction
Ealing Broadway). Change at Tottenham Court Road to the black Northern
line (direction Morden) to Charing Cross.

16:30 - 15:00 - Rest around Trafalgar Square (LP69).
15:00 - 18:30 - National Gallery (LP73).

As we saw Picadilly Circus already we actually went to Harrods instead.
18:30 - 18:45 - Walk (500m) to Picadilly Circus to view the neon lights.
18:45 - 20:30 - Dinner.
20:30 - 21:00 - At Piccadilly Circus take the brown Bakerloo line
(direction Harrow & Wealdstone). Change at Baker Street to the yellow
Circle line (direction Hammersmith (Met.)) to Bayswater.
21:00 - 21:15 - Walk (500m) to Umi Hotel.

Europe Day 12: Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, Bath

Tuesday, November 16th (walking 1km, 2x1 train ride = 3.60gpb)
07:15 - 07:15 - Hotel pick-up by Premium Tours.
08:15 - 20:30 - DAY TRIP - Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor Castle
20:30 - 21:30 - Drop off at Gloucester Station area. Have dinner if
not eaten already.
21:30 - 22:00 - Return to Umi Hotel.

Europe Day 7: Pisa

Thursday, November 11th, Florence to Pisa (morning – mid afternoon) & Florence (mid-afternoon – night)

07:30 - 8:00 - Breakfast at hotel.
08:00 - Travel from Florence SMN to Pisa Centrale by train. Time varies from 1 to 1.5 hours.

This day we actually reversed to route and walked to the Leaning Tower and took the bus back to the station.


09:30 - Take Bus 4 heading Duomo (buy tickets and validate them on boarding, tickets can be bought at tobacconists, bars and newsagents. Consider 4 ticket booklet if necessary).
10:00 - 10:10 - Follow the signs to the ticket office and buy a combined ticket for the number of museums you want to visit.

10:10 - 12:30 (Add one hour if you will see all the museums plus time to climb the tower)

  • Piazza dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles, UNESCO World Heritage Site)
  • Torre Pendente (Leaning Tower) (open 930-1730, E$15 to climb it)
  • Duomo di Pisa (Cathedral) (Free admission from 1 Nov to end of Feb, otherwise E$2). See surviving bronze doors and carved pulpit.
  • Battistero (Baptistry) to see another carved pulpit
  • Campo Santo Monumentale (Cemetery) for collection of ancient Roman sarcophagi and splendid medieval frescoes by the "Master of the Triumph of Death"
  • Museo dell’Opera del Duomo (statues, frescoes, bronze doors)
  • Museo delle Sinopie (damaged frescoes)




12:30 - Lunch and walk around. Suggested route:
Piazza Cavalotti
Piazza dei Cavalieri / Palazzo della Carovana
Palazzo dell’Orologio
Borgo Stretto (an old street with lots of shops)
Palazzo Garibaldi
Ponte di Mezzo (bridge)
Piazza XX Settembre

Stazion Pisa Centrale

13:30 - Leave Pisa and return to Florence (Stazione Firenze SMN) by train

Florence

15:00 - Take bus 12 (from S around the corner from hotel, direction Il David). Get off at stop 20 (2nd last)for Basilica San Miniato al Monte or the next stop (Piazzale Michelangelo) for a sunset view of the city.
17:00 - Take bus 13 or 12 (direction Park Stazione) to return to the train station.
18:00 - 19:00 - Have dinner, early night, and return to hotel.
